What is a GDS?

The full form of GDS is "GRAMIN DAK SEVAK".
A GRAMIN DAK SEVAK is mainly appointed by India Post to deliver it's services to Gramins (Villages).

Definition of GDS (Gramin Dak Sevak)

"A Gramin Dak Sevak is a Person that is appointed for the Dak services to Gramins (Villagers)."
You may have seen that Post Delivery person often come to our doorstep to deliver our posts and he/she regularly work for us when some sends a Post to us.
The same thing happends in the Gramin Areas.

Work of GDS.

If we talk about the work of GDS. It's is very similar to Post Man / Post delivery person but some other scenario it is quite different some how and here is the list how it is different from a post man.
  • It's name is different than post man.
  • It's works similar to post man but somehow different.
  • A GDS can deliver posts and also do other works.
  • A GDS is mainly appointed to serve in Village areas.
  • It also helps to gramin people to get the benefits of different services of Dak (POST) like Account Opening, Cash withdrwal at home and other related schemes like Bachat Yojna etc.
  • A GDS is more advanced than a Postman because he works like a MTS - Multitasking Staff.

Salary of a GDS

GDS salary ranges from Rs. 10,000 to 24,470 per month and it is similar to ABPM.
*ABPM stands for Asst. Branch Post Master.
